West Cork Sudbury School (WCSS) adopts a community approach to education, based on valuing students as inherent learners - students are given the freedom to develop and grow in their own direction and at their own speed as part of a wider community. Being a member of a democratic school comes with freedom to choose and the responsibility that this freedom entails. The balance between freedom and responsibility is at the heart of West Cork Sudbury School.

WCSS offers a choice in education. Every student has different reasons for being here. Whatever the reasons, there have to be alternatives. One size does fit some, but not all.

If we want future generations to be more content, engaged, conscious and self-motivated members of their communities, we need to allow for them to make a choice about their education. Only then will they be able to cope with the accelerated change of the times we live in.
