About this event

  • 5 days 21 hours

There is a big difference between simply becoming old and aging consciously--aging with intent. This retreat, for people in or approaching their senior years (55+), provides a dynamic experiential introduction to conscious aging and the types of inner work that are important on the path toward becoming a conscious elder. Such an elderhood is a role that is consciously chosen and grown into through preparation at all levels— physical, psychological and spiritual. We invite you to join us for an inspiring week on the Emerald Isle, a land with strong earth energy and a long, long history of being home to spiritual questers—an ideal setting for supporting the inner work we will engage in.

This retreat will help you address questions such as:

· How can I transform fear of aging into anticipation of the rich possibilities of elderhood?

· What does it mean to become an elder at this time of profound cultural transition?

· How can the elder third of my life be the pinnacle of my emotional and spiritual development?

· How am I called to be of service to the human and earth community as I age?

· How can I strengthen my resilience as I face the inevitable losses and challenges of aging

· What inner work do I need to do to age consciously and prepare to fully claim and embody my elderhood

THE FORMAT

Using reflective time in nature, life review and legacy work, ceremony, sharing councils, and a day-long solo, we focus on the major themes of conscious eldering: the dynamics of life transition; the power of our beliefs: release and healing of the past; living with purpose and service; community; and spiritual deepening. Empowered by strong supportive community, skilled guidance, and the heart opening power of the natural world, you will have an opportunity to let go of old beliefs, attachments, and attitudes that no longer serve you, and to get in touch with expanded vision for, and commitment to, your potential as a conscious elder.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to do anything to prepare for this retreat?

When you commit to this retreat, you set an inner process in motion. What you receive from your retreat will very much depend upon what you bring to it. It’s not enough to come and “be open”. Come prepared, with clear intentions, deep reflections, and an open heart and mind. See below as examples

Journaling?

Its good to journal about your intentions: What feelings emerge as you anticipate the Choosing Conscious Elderhood retreat. What hopes and expectations arise concerning this program? What fears? (Tell yourself the truth).

Some prompts for journaling...

How do you feel about being older or becoming an Elder? What excites you about elderhood? What frightens you? What of that part of your life is coming to an end and is ready to be released?

more about journaling...

Write about what in you is getting ready to be born: make your best guess if you don't know now! Don't worry, it'll be different than you imagine, anyway. Project it nonetheless. It will help you cast off from the shore of your past.

In the current times of outer uncertainty and disturbance -

Are you struggling with being cooped up at home? Do you find it impossible to sleep because your mind is filled with thoughts going 100 miles an hour?

It is well documented that the act of putting thought and feelings on paper helps give useful emotional and mental clarity. However, there is scientific evidence that the relief that comes from writing things down is more than just psychological.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or finding it difficult to concentrate and work from home? While trying to find peace may seem challenging, Journaling has been proven to boost mood, improve memory, reduce levels of depression, and even improve immune function.
