Join us for a free, interactive, multi-perspective seminar aimed at introducing healthcare providers to transgender issues in healthcare. We will be welcoming contributions from the speakers listed below, with ample time for discussion.

Speaker Biographies

Catherine Cross (Family Support and Education Officer with the Transgender Equality Network of Ireland)
Catherine works with primary and secondary schools across Ireland, advising on policy, delivering trainings to staff and advocating on behalf of families who are looking for support for their gender variant child. She has trained in Intellectual Disability Practice. She obtained a BSocSc in Social Policy and Economics, and an MSocSc in Rights and Social Policy from Maynooth University, and currently teaches Social Policy part-time at Maynooth University. She is also the parent of a transgender child.

Niall Kirrane (Occupational Therapist with the Disability Service, Trinity College Dublin)
Niall works with students with mental health and/or physical/sensory difficulties in Trinity College Dublin and the associated Marino Institute of Education (MIE). Niall works with students in both one-to-one and group based sessions, providing student centred, occupation focused assessment and intervention to help them manage their student role. Niall is currently working as part of an AOTI policy group developing LGBT Inclusive Practice Guidelines for Occupational Therapists.

Steven Harris (Member of the Transgender Community)
Steven is an active member of the Transgender community in Dublin, and has previously contributed to education events aimed at healthcare professionals. Steven is currently studying for a degree in Zoology in University College Dublin.

Patrick Murphy is an Assistant Professor in Psychology in the Disciplines of Occupational Therapy and Radiation Therapy, Trinity College Dublin.
