During this workshop, experienced practitioners Rachel Dempsey and Paula Murphy will come together to provide a unique opportunity to explore the relationship between voice and body. This workshop is open to people of all ages and no previous experience is needed. There will be no solo singing, and a safe, explorative space will be provided. The day will be deeply restorative and nurturing.
Participants will be guided in an exploration of vocal sound, freeing the voice and experiencing how sound vibrates and resonates in the body. This will involve humming, making vowel sounds, chanting from various traditions and harmony singing. In parallel they will also be led in mindful engagements with movement and the senses to bring a deeper sense of presence in the body as it finds voice. While sounding and moving we will be mindful of the precarious and dangerous passage of refugees around the world at this time, and celebrate their resistance, courage and cultures.
Paula Murphy, lecturer in Drama Education, Sound Healer & student of Somatic Movement Education and Therapy (ISMETA) with Joan Davis at the Gorse Hill Centre Greystones since 2012.
