Corrib Beo Partnership is pleased to advise you of a celebratory event on
Inchagoill Island on upper Lough Corrib, on Sunday 25th August, as part of
National Heritage Week, 2019.
The event is designed to create awareness and highlight the natural and built heritage of the lake, its catchment landscapes and help reconnect with the tradition of community engagement linked with this unique waterbody.

Sailings

  • Sailings with Corrib Cruises, departing Oughterard @ 1.00pm and 2.00pm to Inchagoill Island
  • Sailings with Corrib Cruises, departing Lisloughrey, Cong @ 2.00pm to Inchagoill Island (Lisloughrey Pier, near Ashford Castle, l km east of Cong - Eircode: F31YO97).

Itenerary

  • Patrick Luskin (Corrib Cruises Skipper) will be the tour guide for the event.
  • Paul Naeesens (Archeologist NUIG) will speak on the history of Inchagoill and also on the recently discovered 2,500 years old Lees Island log boat (replica on show at Oughterard Pier on the day).
  • Guided tour of the outstanding archaeological treasures of the Island.
  • Anthony Previte, author, will give an account of the archaeological ruins and remnants of the many early ecclesiastical settlements around the Corrib and on Inchagoill Island.
  • Stephen Keneavey (traditional boat builder) will speak on the long tradition of boat building around the Corrib and of his ancestral home on Inchagoill Island.
  • Readings of Corrib literature by students from Corrib catchment schools.
  • Sampling of the Corrib water quality for young citizens with Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre.
  • Corrib Airs - music and song by guest artists.
